Screenwriter Gabriella Apicella primarily writes stories about female characters
that are transgressive, unpredictable and believable. 

She is Co-Founder of UnderWire Festival, alongside Producer Gemma Mitchell.  This short film festival recognises raw female filmmaking talent.

As Founder of Storytails, Gabriella enjoys providing a monthly forum for professional and non-professional writers to share their work.  Storytails is also a regular feature of the Stoke Newington Literary Festival, and has been featured on BBC London Radio and on the Londonist Podcast

Over the past two years, her work as been made into short films, used for experimental theatre projects, and been commissioned for a sound art installation.  

Gabriella is on the board of Euroscript, for whom she regularly teaches and produces script reports.  Since September 2009 she has also worked as a Sessional Lecturer in Screenwriting at Birkbeck College, University of LondonPast teaching assignments have included work with organisations as diverse as the Civil Service, and the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith. 

A dedicated activist for equality and human rights, Gabriella also co-produced the short film "Hooray for Hollywood" and organised the premiere screening of it at Amnesty International Headquarters.  This film aims to raise awareness about the industry surrounding images of child sexual abuse. 

She also writes for National events listings site Remote Goat, Pure Movies, For Books' Sake, and the Arts Council funded paper and website Notes from the Underground.  Recently she has also written on depictions of women in film for the American feminist film website Bitch Flicks.
